Casting Our Crowns Before Jesus
The twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” (Revelation 4:10-11)
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)
When we give in response to real needs, we imitate the heavenly worship John witnessed—casting every crown, every accomplishment, every resource before Jesus in surrender.
Imagine the scene in Revelation: victorious elders, crowned for faithfulness, immediately lay their rewards at Christ’s feet. Nothing is held back. Their posture declares that He alone is worthy. This is the ultimate picture of worship—recognizing that every good thing we have, every victory we experience, ultimately belongs to Him.
Paul echoes this in Philippians 2:4, urging us to look to the interests of others. When we give sacrificially toward the Overflow Initiative, we practice this now: laying down personal comfort, preferences, and resources so that others—children in new classrooms, students in dedicated spaces, guests driving by on Racetrack Road—might encounter Jesus and grow in Him.
These expanded facilities will become places where future generations learn to cast their crowns too—through Bible studies, worship services, outreach, and discipleship. Every dollar, every volunteer hour, every prayer is an act of worship today, preparing altars for tomorrow.
Let us live with open hands, eager to honor the One who deserves all glory.
Reflection:
- What “crowns” (achievements, resources, comforts) is God inviting you to lay at Jesus’ feet right now?
- How does seeing your giving toward the Overflow Initiative as present-day worship change your perspective on sacrifice?
Prayer:
Most holy and worthy God, we bow before Your throne and cast every crown at Your feet. All we are and all we have is Yours. Transform our hearts to look not only to our own interests but to the needs of others and the advance of Your kingdom. Use the Overflow Initiative to create spaces where many more will one day join the elders in declaring Your worthiness forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
