Baptism is a very important step in the life of a new believer of Jesus Christ. Jesus called us to mark the beginning of our decision to follow Him with baptism. The New Testament practice of baptism by immersion is a visual symbol of what is taking place Spiritually between God and us. Water symbolizes washing, removal of sins, being cleansed and set apart from the world by the Holy Spirit. Complete immersion symbolizes that you are putting to death your old way of thinking, and that you are inviting in the mind set of Christ and the Holy Spirit to guide your life (Acts 2:37-38; Rom. 12:1-2). You begin walking in newness of life because the former way of life has been put to death and the Holy Spirit now in you, through baptism, is raising up a new life committed to following Christ. Acts 2:38 says “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (ESV)
If you have confessed your sins to Jesus, asked Him to help you turn from any sinful attitudes and behaviors (repentance), and believe that He is the Christ, Son of the living God, your Lord and your Savior; it’s time to be immersed into Jesus through baptism. We can only hope to do what the Bible says and follow the example the Bible sets: The Bible establishes that salvation is a transaction between God and a penitent sinner willing to obey God’s authority on these issues no matter what. Our priority is to advise on what the Bible says. The New Testament does not address the concept of an un-baptized (un-immersed) believer after the resurrection of Christ.
