Rich in Good Works

  -

You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy 8:18)

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. (1 Timothy 6:17-18)

Having embraced that God owns it all, today we learn to think like His godly servants—recognizing He is the source of every blessing and calling us to generosity that reflects His heart.

Christlike generosity is never measured by the size of the gift but by the posture of the heart. It is a recognition that it is God “who gives you power to get wealth.” Just as Jesus praised the widow who gave two small coins because she offered them with complete trust and devotion, God invites all of us, rich or poor, into that same kind of cheerful, faithful giving—one that flows from gratitude rather than obligation. When we give with joy, we reflect the heart of Christ, who gave Himself fully for us.

Paul instructs Timothy to remind the rich to set “their hopes…on God” and that they are “to be rich in good works” and generous. Many of us leave with abundance we scarcely recognize but consider this: eighty percent of the global population lives on less than ten US dollars per day. And, among U.S. counties, St. Johns County ranks roughly in the top 3–4% nationally by median household income.

As we at Creekside embrace the Overflow Initiative and expand God’s kingdom work, we are not merely funding a building expansion—we are investing in eternity. Every gift, no matter the amount, becomes a seed that our faithful God multiplies for everlasting impact.

Reflection:

  1. What steps is the Lord prompting you to take to think and live more like His godly servant?
  2. How is God inviting you to deeper trust through your commitment to the Overflow Initiative?

Prayer:

Father, remind us daily that all we have comes from You. Transform our hearts to hold loosely to earthly wealth and grip tightly to eternal treasure. Fill us with joy as we give, knowing we partner in Your glorious work. In Jesus’ name, amen.
