Day 18 – I Can Give My Heart To Him

Matthew 2:1-12

Jesus was probably one or two years old when the wise men arrived. Though Jesus was unable to do anything for them, they were overjoyed to see Him and showered Him with gifts that were fit for royalty. The wise men celebrated Jesus purely for who He is— a miracle child and promised king even though He had yet to heal a single person or preach a single message.

These passages in Matthew reflect several gentle but great powers:

  • Power of true belief:
    • Imagine getting some instructions like the Magi received and feeling compelled to follow them, being told to travel far away from your home for many months. Hard to imagine this would be a true natural first instinct for us, yet they did it without hesitation!
  • Power of unbridled worship:
    • The Magi looked at this small child and with all of their heads and hearts knew this small person was who God had told them about, and without hesitation showered Him with all sorts of gifts, not the least of which was committing their very souls to Him.
  • Power of active listening and obeying:
    • They listened to what God had commanded to seek Jesus AND heeded His warning to avoid Herod. Shouldn’t we both listen AND obey His teachings every day?

Reflect:

  • As you reflect on these powers, how many of them have you felt in your life?
  • Have you experienced how wonderfully powerful complete belief in what God tells us can be once you just let the Holy Spirit take control?
  • Have you felt the powerful relief of shedding all the world’s problems from your shoulders to just worship Him with all your head and heart and let the wonderful feelings of joy wash over you?
  • And once you fully realize what He is trying to say to you in that small voice that you just don’t seem to hear some days, once you do hear Him and can shut out all the bad advice the world offers each day, have you felt the presence of his arms wrapping around you with the love and protection of a parent?

These are the kinds of powers that we really should embrace each day!
