Day 19 – We Can Know God

John 1:1-14

Imagine someone new moves into your neighborhood. From a distance, you might immediately notice the car they drive, what hours they work, and whether or not they have children. You would know some things about them, but you wouldn’t know them. To know them, you’d have to be introduced. You’d have to speak to them.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
– John 1:14

The arrival of Jesus to “our neighborhood,” changed everything for those who got to really know him. There were those who observed him from a distance, but didn’t understand or experience him. There were those that challenged him for fear of their own position. But there were also those who really got to know him. They were curious and humble enough to listen, see, and ask questions. They sought to understand and, when they couldn’t understand, they trusted.

Many today also “observe” Jesus and think “oh, what an interesting or wise teacher.” But, he does not leave us that option. He wants us to see and experience His glory, His grace, and His truth. Others feel threatened by these things as they recognize the implications of them. They recognize that submission requires obedience, and likely a change in behavior.

Reflect:
Do you know or are you seeking the God of the Bible who has been revealed to us by His son, Jesus Christ?

  • If so, how has His glory, grace, and truth changed you?
  • What is God asking of you now?
  • If you don’t know him as Savior and Lord, what questions do you have and what next steps can you take to move you closer to knowing Him? Can we help introduce him to you?
