Day 1: The Waiting Is the Point
The Waiting Is the Point
Read: Isaiah 40:3–5
“A voice of one calling: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord… and the glory of the Lord will be revealed.’ (Isaiah 40:3–5)”
Advent means “coming,” but it also means waiting—on purpose. Our world minimizes waiting with instant shipping, streaming, and shortcuts, yet God forms people in the slow lane. Israel held Isaiah’s promise for centuries before Jesus arrived. That kind of delay can feel like silence, but biblically, waiting is not wasted; it is shaping. It stretches trust, makes room for hope, and clears space so we can welcome Christ, not just Christmas.
This month, resist the rush. Let your heart practice expectancy. Light candles slowly. Read Scripture out loud. Pray before you scroll. Invite your kids into the story with simple practices—one verse at dinner, one moment of gratitude at bedtime. Advent is less about doing more and more about noticing more: God is already at work.
At Creekside we say everyone should Know Christ. Sometimes knowing Him begins by waiting with Him—choosing to believe that His timing is good, His presence is near, and His promises are certain, even when the calendar is full and your plans feel fragile.
Reflect:
- What are you waiting for right now, and how might God be shaping you in that delay?
- What one practice will help you slow down and wait with expectation this week?
