Where Your Treasure Is

  -

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

As we launch our Overflow Initiative, we’re not just building a new facility—we’re investing in a spiritual legacy with eternal impact. It’s easy to focus on logistics, costs, and design, but Matthew 6:19-21 calls us to store up treasures in heaven, not on earth. Earthly wealth, status, and possessions fade away. What will matter five minutes after our final breath is what we’ve invested in God’s kingdom.

Jesus reminds us: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Our gifts of time, resources, and faith in this project aren’t just supporting a building—they’re advancing God’s work, shaping lives, and building His kingdom for generations to come. These investments contribute not just to a building, but to the very heart of God’s work in the world. If our treasures are implicitly tied to furthering God’s kingdom, our hearts align with His purpose.

This initiative is a tangible way to express our love for God and others. Let’s align our hearts with His purpose by being intentional in our commitment.

Here are some ways you lay up treasures in heaven through this initiative.

  • Pray earnestly for God’s guidance and blessing.
  • Give generously—financially, and with your time and talents. Every contribution matters.
  • Volunteer your skills—before, during, and after construction in hospitality, outreach, or wherever needed—to help build a vibrant faith community.

Reflection:

  1. If you imagined yourself five minutes into eternity looking back on your life, what current use of your time, talents, or money might you wish you had handled differently?
  2. How does Jesus’ warning about moth, rust, and thieves help you evaluate where your treasure (and heart) is focused right now?

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of this community and the opportunity to build a place where Your love can flourish. Help us to focus our hearts on what truly matters as we invest in Your kingdom. And may our contributions bless others and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Vision Nights Reminder:

Join us for one of two identical Visions Nights on Wednesday, February 11th or February 18th at 6:30 PM in the Worship Center, where we’ll share about the heart and vision of the Overflow Initiative. This is a great opportunity to hear details and ask questions. Creekside Kids will be available for children’s programming.
